Five Beauty Tips: Tried and True
If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, why do we work so hard to be beautiful? What does that even mean anyway? Whatever it means, I know that I’ve spent an arm and a leg and a great deal of time chasing it! And, I know I’m not alone! Almost every magazine is filled with beauty product advertisements and the same is true for television. We are always on the hunt for the latest and greatest product or tip that promises to make us beautiful!
Even though I’m an avid lover and purchaser of beauty products (I’ll save that conversation for another day), I believe that natural beauty reigns supreme. So, that’s what we’ll focus on today. I’m going to share with you some of my most trusted tips to enhance your natural beauty.

How can we enhance our beauty?
Sio Beauty defines natural beauty as simply loving the skin you’re in. I love this definition because it reminds us that beauty is personal. Beauty is not a universal standard; rather, it varies from person to person based on their unique preferences, experiences, cultural background, and personal values.
Here are some of my favorite tricks to keep me feeling beautiful:
- NEVER go to bed with makeup on. I have been told multiple times that it is not a good idea to sleep in makeup. My dermatologist corroborated this tip adding that sleeping in makeup can trap dirt inside the skin, which could be problematic. Choose a gentle, but effective cleanser to ensure that you get all of the dirt, oil, and makeup off of your face before going to bed.
- Drink plenty of water. I struggle with this sometimes, but I can honestly tell a difference when I choose water over sodas and juices. I have fewer breakouts when I’m drinking mostly water and my skin does not tend to be as dry as when I’m not drinking water. I’ve added the Water Buddy app to my phone to calculate the amount of water that I need to drink daily. The app also reminds me to drink water throughout the day.
- Smile often. Kirk Franklin said it best, “You look so much better when you smile.” Rarely will you catch me without my smile. Even when I don’t feel like it. Smiling equals happy. Happy equals beautiful.
- Invest in eye cream. Getting plenty of sleep should be on this list, but I haven’t quite been able to master it yet, so I decided to just replace it with this tip. Eye cream isn’t a replacement for getting plenty of sleep, but it sure is a close alternative. I started using eye cream in my mid-twenties and have never stopped. It’s a must to help combat dark circles and puffiness caused by stress and restlessness.
- Keep it simple. Whatever your regimen is, remember less is more. A bare minimum skincare routine is best (a gentle cleanser, sunscreen, moisturizer) unless you have directions from a physician to add specific treatments. (Don’t ask me how I know.
