If you haven’t guessed it by now, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, is one of my favorite destinations. Nestled in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. With its scenic beauty, outdoor adventures, and charming downtown area, there are plenty of romantic things for couples to do in Gatlinburg

Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to spend quality time together, Gatlinburg has it all. In this guide, we’ll explore the top romantic activities and attractions to help you plan an unforgettable escape with your loved one. My husband and I visited Gatlinburg for our 23rd wedding anniversary, and we had a wonderful time.

Explore Downtown Gatlinburg

Start your romantic adventure in downtown Gatlinburg. Stroll hand in hand along the bustling streets, lined with unique shops, cafes, and charming boutiques.

The downtown area is also home to the Gatlinburg Space Needle, which offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding mountains from its observation deck.

My favorite: Walking through The Village. The Village is home to 27 unique gift shops, eateries, and boutiques. 

We also enjoy walking through the Hollywood Star Cars Museum, where you can enjoy seeing cars from your favorite movies and television shows.

Enjoy a Romantic Dinner

Gatlinburg boasts a variety of romantic restaurants, perfect for a special evening. The Peddler Steakhouse offers a cozy atmosphere with riverside dining, while the Park Grill serves up delicious steak and seafood in a rustic setting. For a truly unique dining experience, consider The Melting Pot, known for its fondue options that are perfect for sharing.

My favorites: The Greenbrier and Cherokee Grill. 

The Greenbrier is perfect for a romantic dinner. They call themselves Gatlinburg’s premier steakhouse, and I have to say I agree! Every time we’ve visited The Greenbrier, our experience has been absolutely amazing.

The restaurant is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown and provides an atmosphere that makes any occasion a little more special. I recommend making a reservation, although it’s not required. You can’t go wrong with one of their in-house dry-aged steaks. And please do yourself a favor and save room for dessert! The creme brulee is amazing!

Cherokee Grill is located on the main parkway in downtown Gatlinburg. Though it’s perfect for date night, it’s also great for an evening with family and friends. The menu includes unique drinks, specials and appetizers. I had the filet and shrimp, and my husband had the pork chop. We both left happy and full!

If you love wine, you might enjoy touring the Rocky Top Wine Trail. You might even discover one of your new favorite wines along the way. Explore the flavors of East Tennessee and enjoy some quality time sipping wine with your partner. Here are some of the wineries along the trail:

Gatlinburg Sky Park

Take a scenic chairlift ride to the top of Crockett Mountain at the Gatlinburg Sky Park. You’ll be treated to stunning views of the Great Smoky Mountains and the city below, making it one of the top romantic things to do.

The Sky Park in Gatlinburg is a must-visit attraction. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding natural beauty and provides an unforgettable experience for visitors. 

The adventure begins with a scenic chairlift ride that transports you high above the forest canopy. Once at the mountaintop, you’ll find an observation deck where you can take in the awe-inspiring scenery, snap photos, and simply revel in the tranquility of the mountains. 

The Sky Park also features a pedestrian suspension bridge known as the SkyBridge, which adds an extra thrill to your visit.

Ripley’s Aquarium is home to a mesmerizing array of aquatic life. Inside, you’ll discover a wealth of marine wonders, including colorful coral reefs, playful penguins, graceful stingrays, and even the elusive sea turtle. One of the highlights of the aquarium is the mesmerizing underwater tunnel, where you can walk through a transparent tube as sharks and other marine creatures glide above and around you.

A visit to Gatlinburg wouldn’t be complete without spending time in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Go for a scenic drive through Cades Cove, where you might spot white-tailed deer and wild turkey. If you’re feeling adventurous, consider a guided horseback ride or a hike to Rainbow Falls. The park offers plenty of opportunities for couples to connect with nature.

Another fan favorite is the Roaring Fork Motor Trail. The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is an absolute gem in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. As you embark on this winding, one-way road, you’re instantly transported into a forested wonderland. The trail lives up to its name, with the Roaring Fork stream rushing alongside the road, creating a soothing soundtrack to your journey. Don’t miss this tranquil and scenic drive when visiting the area.

Ober Mountain is a great place for fun activities. Take the Aerial Tramway for an exciting ride to the top of the mountain. Once you arrive on the mountain, you can enjoy skiing, snow tubing (in the winter), ice skating (in the winter), and a wildlife encounter. Ober Mountain also offers meal options with scenic views.

For a thrilling experience, head to the top of Anakeesta Mountain. You can reach the summit via a chondola ride or the Ridge Rambler. Once at the top, explore the tree canopy walkways, dine at one of the restaurants, and take in the stunning views from the observation deck.

If you visit Anakeesta at night, you can experience Astra Lumina, an evening immersive entertainment experience. Grab your partner and enjoy a nighttime journey through the forest that combines elements of storytelling, light displays, music, and interactive art to create a magical and enchanting experience.

Moonshine Tastings

Tennessee is known for its moonshine, and you can taste some of the best at places like Sugarlands Distillery or Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery. Sample a variety of flavors and enjoy a unique tasting experience.

After you’ve soaked up all the fun your heart can handle, relax in your vacation rental. There are several cabins, chalets, and hotels that offer a serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of the Gatlinburg strip. Whether you’re lounging on a deck, savoring a cup of coffee while gazing at the forested vistas, or unwinding in the bubbling hot tub under the starlit sky, you’re sure to find tranquility. 

We typically rent a cabin when we’re in the area, but we recently chose Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Gatlinburg and it did not disappoint! First, let’s talk about the location, the location, the location! This hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of several popular Gatlinburg attractions and delicious restaurants. We only moved the car once during our stay! Our room was spacious, clean, and packed with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. My favorite part–the outdoor patio area, complete with a beautiful firepit that was perfect for evening nightcaps.
