When is the best time to travel to Miami?

Any time of year that you travel to Miami is a good time. However, according to U.S. News & World Report, the best time to travel to the area is between the months of March and May. Traveling during these times allows you to enjoy warm temperatures while taking advantage of non-peak rates.

You might also want to be cautious when planning a trip during hurricane season. Typically, hurricane season in the Miami area is from late July to November. Make sure to check the weather when planning a trip during these times.

What clothes to pack for Miami?

One thing is for sure: you will see all types of fashion in Miami. From flip flops to high heels and everything in between, it is hard to pinpoint the dress code for this bustling city. I do, however, suggest you choose clothing you’re comfortable in so you can enjoy everything the city has to offer.

Casual outfits: You will definitely want to toss a casual outfit or two in your suitcase. There are many activities and attractions in the area that will require comfortable clothing. It might also be a good idea to opt for bright colors to avoid the extra heat that darker colors can attract.

A light jacket: Even if you’re traveling to the area in the summer months, it might be a good idea to throw a light jacket in your bag. The evenings can be a bit windy near the water and you might also need a light jacket for some of your indoor dining, night tours, or other activities.

Tank Tops: Miami’s tropical temperatures will have you searching for a tank top. Make sure to pack a few so you can stay cool in Miami heat (pun intended).

Shorts: Make sure to have a pair of shorts to grab for those hot days in south Florida. They will come in very handy as you make your way through the city.

Undergarments: Pack plenty of undergarments for your trip. The high humidity might force you to take multiple showers throughout the day, so be prepared. Also, pay attention to the outfits you pack and make sure you grab the appropriate undergarments for your outfits. For example, don’t forget your strapless bras if you are packing strapless tops or dresses.

Comfortable shoes: If you like to go sightseeing, you will want to pack some comfortable shoes. Several attractions like touring Little Havana or browsing the Wynwood District require lots of walking.

Closed-toe shoes: In addition to your comfortable shoes, you will also want to pack some closed toe-shoes. There are some higher end establishments that require closed-toe shoes and you don’t want to be unprepared.

Dresses: Remember that nightlife I mentioned earlier? Well, make sure you are prepared by packing some cute dresses for going out and some cute sandals to go with them. You might want to grab a mini dress and a maxi dress, depending on where you plan to go. If you plan to go to a club or if you’re planning a hot date night, be sure to grab your favorite sexy dresses!

Workout clothes: You’ll be eating some delicious meals while you’re in Miami, so make sure to pack your workout clothes if you want to take advantage of the hotel’s gym. you might even want to head down to Muscle Beach to get in a few reps before you start your day of fun.

What do I need to pack for the beach?

Miami has beautiful beaches. And the nice thing is, even if you travel to the area during the winter months, you will still be able to enjoy some beach time. Here are some items you will not want to leave home without:

Swimsuits: Whether you prefer one piece or two pieces, you do not want to leave home without your swimsuit. If you decide to sunbathe or ride some waves, you will need a bathing suit.

Sarong: Depending on where you stay, you might need a sarong or cover-up for going in and out to the beach or pool. Many luxury hotels require that you be covered while you are inside the lobby of the hotel.

Flip flops: Don’t forget to pack your flip-flops or a pair of sandals to walk by the swimming pool or on the beach. You might even want to grab them if you take a stroll down South Beach!

Refillable water bottles: Those South Florida temperatures can leave you feeling like you need some extra hydration. Pack a refillable water bottle so you can quench your thirst while you’re enjoying your beach vacation.

Wide-brim hat: Protect your skin and beat the heat with a stylish wide-brim hat. If you don’t want to travel with one, there are several shops in the area for you to grab one. You might even be able to find one in a hotel gift shop. Just be prepared to pay a little more than you might in a typical store.

Sunglasses: Your eyes will appreciate having the added sun protection provided by a good pair of sunglasses. Don’t forget to toss your favorite pair in your carry-on luggage.

Beach bag: You will need your beach bag to carry all of your essentials. There are many options that can be folded up and stored in your luggage to keep from taking up too much space.

Lip balm: Make sure to pack your favorite lip balm in case your lips get chapped. It’s so annoying to not have it available so make sure to add it to your list of travel essentials.

Sun protection: You will need your suntan lotion if you’re planning to work on your tan. If you’re wanting protection from the sun’s rays, you’ll want to grab your sunscreen

Portable fan: If you know that you tend to get extra hot while you’re at the beach, you might want to pack a portable fan. Portable fans are lightweight and can provide a nice breeze during those extra hot times on your Miami trip.

What electronic items do I need for my trip?

You will have so much fun on your trip to Miami. Don’t forget to capture the memories so you can look back on them for years to come. These are some items you will not want to forget:

Cell phone. While you’re busy packing your things, make sure you don’t forget your phone so you can FaceTime your friends and take lots of pictures and videos while you’re away.

Cell phone charger.

Laptop/tablet. Just in case you have to catch up on some emails or take care of some business, grab your laptop or tablet. It is also great to have your laptop or tablet on hand in case you have a layover at the airport and need to watch a movie or read a book to pass the time.

Portable charger. Phones batteries always seem to dwindle right when you need to take a picture or video of something great. Do not let this happen to you. Throw a couple of portable chargers in your bag so you will be ready if your phone battery decides to quit in the middle of something good!

Airpods.

Portable speaker. If you want to listen to some tunes while you are in your hotel room or while you’re chilling on the beach, you can use a portable speaker. There are several options for small, compact speakers that sound great so if you don’t have one, grab one before you head to Miami.

What are some popular attractions in the Miami area?

If this is your first time visiting Miami or Miami Beach, you may be wondering what all there is to do in the area. This city is packed with so many cultural and historical sites, beautiful beaches, fabulous mansions, amazing artwork, great shopping and countless Instagrammable spots. You will need a long weekend or even a week-long trip to soak up everything to do in the area. Here are some of my favorite things to do and places to go in the Miami area:

Walk along Ocean Drive. There are so many cute, but pricey, restaurants on Ocean Drive in South Beach Miami.

Relax in your hotel room. After a day at the beach, you might want to chill in your hotel room before heading out some nighttime fun.

Take a day trip to Key West. There’s a bit of a drive to the keys so you really want to evaluate whether or not it’s worth it for you to dedicate that time during your Miami trip. Everyone I talked to said that Key West is a trip in itself, but there are several people who make the drive, spend the day in the Keys, and then drive back to Miami.
