FAQ-Getting to Know the Woman Behind the Blog
Today, I’m doing a “self-interview” post so that you can learn more about me. So, keep reading to find out everything (well, almost everything) you need to know about the woman behind WhatCherithinks.
1. What part of the state do you call home?
I’m a native of Talladega, Alabama. But, I actually grew up in a small, rural town called Winterboro. But, Pell City, Alabama has been my home for the last 17 years. It is where our children have grown up, where we’ve met some of our best friends, and where we have made some pretty amazing memories!
2. How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging at WhatCherithinks for a little over a month. However, I’m no stranger to blogging. I first started blogging back in 2012 and blogged for about three years. Life got in the way and I stopped. I’m so happy to be back doing what I love doing. I find so much joy in blogging and I hope that you will find WhatCherithinks a joyous place to visit!
3. Why did you start blogging?
I fell in love with my friend’s blog, Hems for Her back in 2012. She encouraged me to give blogging a try. Since I love writing, I figured I’d give it a shot! I blogged for about three years and then life got in the way. During my “down” time, I kept up with some of my favorite bloggers and jotted down ideas for my new blog.
Since then, so much has happened in my life. After losing both of my parents within a three-month time frame, I resolved to find something to do to keep me occupied and to deal with my feelings. Blogging is what I choose. I always knew that I’d be back and I’m so happy that I am. Thanks so much for welcoming me back with open arms!
4. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I hope to have grown as a writer. I hope to have a well-established blog and I also hope to have seen my byline in a few local publications. If all goes as planned, I will have penned my first book.
5. If you could choose an actress to play you in your life, who would you choose and why?
Angela Bassett, duh. She is so beautiful and is a brilliant actress.
6. Name five things on your Bucket List that you hope you’ll check off before you die?
-Learn to play the piano WELL (I dabble, but nothing major. I need more lessons.)
-Meet and hang out with Oprah Winfrey! (I’ve been a fan since I was about 11!)
-Vacation in Bora Bora (And stay EXACTLY where they stayed in the movie “Couples Retreat”)
-Go skiing. I don’t actually want to ski. I just want to put on the garb. And take pictures. I’m way too scared that I’d tumble down the slope.
-Go sky diving (Not really, but everyone puts that on their Bucket List, so what the heck?)
7. If you could be known for one thing, what would it be and why?
I want to be known for being an advocate for children. I’m an educator by trade, and I really care about children and their overall well-being.
8. Describe the best moment in your life.
I have two best moments in life: the day that I became Jordan’s mother and the day that I became Kaylen’s mother. Best moments in life. No doubt. My children make me so happy. I’m so proud of them and feel really blessed to be their mother.
9. If you could “be” anything (no consequences, no fear), what would you “be”?
That’s a tough one. I think I’d be a travel agent so that I could travel the world and then help people plan exciting vacations!
10. What or who inspires you to blog?
My life inspires my blog. I blog about things that I experience.
11. We’re headed to your neck of the woods… what restaurant would you recommend?
Dock’s Bar & Grill. It’s a quaint little family-owned sports bar and restaurant. The Hubs and I are regulars there. If you go, I highly recommend the grilled tilapia with mango salsa and make sure to save room for the fried banana pudding for dessert! As a matter of fact, call me if you go so that I can meet you there!
12. What’s a southern tradition you and your family have?
Big Thanksgiving meals. I must admit, though, Thanksgiving will be pretty tough for me. I lost my father (who always fried turkeys for Thanksgiving) and my mother recently and they are usually the hosts for our family gatherings. It will be very different this year without them.
