The beach is a popular destination for family vacations, couples’ getaways, and girls’ trips.  But, did you know that the beach is the ideal locale for a Flexcation? Alabama’s beaches are perfect for remote workers and virtual school families looking to get away, but not interrupt work and school responsibilities in the process.

What is a Flexcation?

According to Forbes, a flexcation is a creative way for families to combine work and play. The Flexcation generally occurs later in August, September, and October so that families can get a better value in high-demand locations.

My favorite location for a flexcation is the Alabama Gulf Coast.  I’ll tell you more about why in just a minute.

Why flexcation at the beach?

Why not Flexcation at the beach is a better question. Working from the beach is way better than working at home! Don’t you agree? With the flexibility of a laptop and the internet, you no longer have to be tied down to your home office to get the job done. You can work within earshot of waves crashing, with a view that will motivate you to work hard so that you can enjoy the sand in between your toes! And, if your kids are attending school virtually, they can bring along their devices so that they can stay abreast of all their required lessons and assignments, too.

Why Alabama Beaches for your next flexcation?

I grew up vacationing at the Alabama Gulf Coast and it’s a tradition that I just can’t shake. The white sands and the family-friendly atmosphere has made Gulf Shores and Orange Beach my top pick for vacations for years. So, of course, my top pick for a flexcation is the Alabama Gulf Coast.

Here, your family can work from your beach rental or you can head to the Thomas B. Norton Public Library if you want to opt for a different setting or if you need printers, scanners, copiers, and the like.

I love the familiarity and convenience of the area, yet each time I visit, it’s a new experience.

Here are other reasons why a Flexcation at Alabama Beaches is ideal:

1. Save money by traveling in the off season.

Beach vacations are fun, but they can be expensive.  Several savvy travelers save money by taking advantage of off-season deals. Many travelers save up to 50% off of their vacation by choosing dates later in August, September, and October.  And you may be surprised to learn that several areas near the Alabama Gulf Coast stay warm later in the year, so you might still be able to enjoy the water and other outdoor activities.

I visited Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in September and was still able to enjoy some great weather at the beach and experience some fun outdoor activities!

2. Choose accommodations that have all the luxuries of home.

With more than 18,000 vacation rental units and hotel rooms along Alabama’s Gulf Coast, you’re sure to find one that has all the luxuries of home. In fact, you might want to use this time that exceeds your usual home luxuries for an added touch to your flexcation.

I’ve traveled to the Alabama Gulf Coast several times and I can attest to the fact that there are some top-notch properties available in the area that are equipped with everything to make you feel right at home.

3. Be a few steps away from your favorite excursions.

The Alabama Gulf Coast is home to some of the best excursions. How cool would it be to take an extended break from work to catch a fun excursion before wrapping up your work day? A Flexcation to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach makes it convenient for you to schedule a dolphin cruise, hop a jet ski, board a helicopter for a tour, or my favorite roll through Gulf State Park on a Segway!

These excursions could also double as educational opportunities for your children, which is a perfect addition to virtual learning. The Pirate Ship Cruise, Intercoastal Safaris, and the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo are the perfect adventures for unique learning experiences.

4. Enjoy some of your favorite restaurants and discover new favorites.

Gulf Shores and Orange Beach boast some of the best dining experiences around! I always look forward to a trip to the Alabama Gulf Coast and that’s largely because there are so many great restaurants in the area.

With so many great dining options, I’m sure you’ll find your new favorite restaurants while you’re in town!

5. Change of scenery and avoid getting cabin fever.

The thought of working and attending classes at home can sound attractive, but some people get easily bored with living and working in the same place. The day in day out of constantly being with the same people in the same place can cause a case of cabin fever. Booking a flexcation at the beach can add just the bit of change that you need to recharge and regroup.

By now, I bet you’re ready to book your flexcation to the Alabama Gulf Coast! I’m already checking my calendar for my next available travel window! See you at the beach!
