Hello everyone!  This episode is a bonus episode released just in time for Back to School 2020.  It’s been a very interesting year, to say the least, and so many teachers are experiencing different emotions as they prepare to begin this school year in a new way.  I’m so excited to offer words of encouragement to educators everywhere as they begin a school year unlike any other.

Podcast transcript:

Welcome to the WhatCherithinks podcast. The podcast where we talk all things education in an effort to inspire, encourage and support those in the field. Thank you so much for tuning in. Today’s episode is a bonus episode. The WhatCherithinks podcast does not officially launch until September 1st, but all teachers know that a dose of encouragement is needed as we embark upon this new season. And, it is certainly needed as we embark upon this school year.

This school year is unlike any other that we have seen before. Some might argue that it looks a lot like the end of the 2019 – 2020 school year, but I’d like to clear that up. At the end of the last school year, everyone was on the same page. We didn’t know exactly what was going on, but we all knew that being at school was not the right thing to do. And now, everybody knows everything about how we should start the school year. The only thing is that everyone’s opinion is different. Some people think that school should be open for face-to-face instruction, some think that virtual or remote is the way to go. Others think that a staggered start or a blended model is the best way. One thing’s for certain, nobody is on the same page! As an educator. I have heard arguments from every single angle. And truth be told, there’s something to say about each model. There’s nothing about any of the models that makes it 100% perfect for any learner or for any faculty or staff member.

With all the outside noise, teachers are still expected to walk into their classrooms or log in to their computers and prepare to teach students and to do so at a high-level. They are expected to navigate each and every obstacle that presents itself so that they can produce future-ready students who are ready to assume the roles in society. And you know what? They will! They always do! Year after year teachers are presented with a new obstacle whether it be budget cuts, inadequate facilities, overcrowded classrooms, last-minute changes in personnel, or necessary adjustments to the schedule. And they find a way to overcome these obstacles every single time. Teachers find a way to take a seemingly impossible situation and make it amazing! So please, sit back and watch them work!

Yeah, I know what you’ve heard them say. I know what it looks like. It’s going to be tough. The amount of preparation that will occur between now and the start of school is unimaginable. Teachers will prepare to the best of their abilities and it won’t be enough. It is impossible to prepare for every single scenario that we may face in the coming weeks.  But, we will do our best.  We will do our best to ensure that we provide students with the best education possible. We will ignore the criticism and do what we do: educate students.

Thank you so much for tuning in and best of luck to every educator preparing to return to school in the coming days. I cannot wait to see the amazing things that will occur this school year!
