If Mother’s Day has snuck up on you without giving you the chance to buy a present, knowing a few last-minute gift ideas is essential. You can pick up many of these gifts on your way to visit your mother on Mother’s Day. (Don’t worry, I won’t tell her!) Remember to buy some wrapping paper, scissors, and sticky tape or ribbon as well, and no one will know that you only just remembered the gift.
Flowers
Flowers are not a very original gift, but few mothers will turn down a big bunch of brightly colored blooms with a large bow. Most supermarkets and convenience stations have a few buckets of flowers near the door. Try to pick a large ready-made bouquet if at all possible, but if the only flowers left are a few small bunches of tulips, then you should purchase 2 or 3 small bunches and put them all together.
Pro tip: If you’re unable to travel to Mom on Mother’s Day, you can her these flowers from Amazon. I’ve ordered them several times and the recipients have raved about how beautiful they are!
Plants
If you have to go past a garden center or nursery on your way to your mother’s house, then a plant may be easier to buy than a bunch of cut flowers. There will almost certainly be a display near to the entrance with plants in novelty pots and baskets, often already tied up with bows and ribbons and possibly balloons or a teddy bear as well.
Chocolates
Chocolates are another old favorite for those who have forgotten this special date in the calendar. If you are going to present your mother with a box of luxury chocolates, don’t spoil the effect by handing them over in a plastic supermarket grocery bag. Go to the stationery section and find a gift bag big enough to accommodate the box of chocolates. You might want to pick up a card as well while you are there.
Lunch
Why would a mother want to spend Mother’s Day cooking a meal for her family, just like she does every other day of the year? Finding a place to take your mother for lunch on Mother’s Day may be difficult, as many other people will have had the same last-minute idea. However, there is nothing stopping you from cooking lunch for your mother. If cooking fills you with dread, then pick up some supplies on your way to pick up your mother and then take a drive into the countryside and have a picnic lunch instead.
While these last-minute gift ideas may not be the most expensive or impressive items to give your mother, they will at least show her that you care.
