Funny how a place can feel completely different depending on who you were when you last saw it.

I’ve been to Majestic Caverns more times than I can count, but walking through with my journalist hat on this time hit different.

As a kid, it was just “the cave” down the road. As an adult (and a writer), I found myself noticing the story underneath the story: the geology, the history, the people who’ve kept this place going.

Same cavern, totally new lens.

I’m obsessed with small towns.

There’s just something about them. Maybe it’s the way everybody knows your name, the way a Saturday morning at the local store turns into an hour-long conversation, or the way you can still find magic in a place that isn’t trying to be anything other than exactly what it is. #iykyk

I was born in a small town, raised on small town values, and I spend every free moment I have chasing small town stories across this state.

So naturally, when I saw this fan in the Photo Booth props at the 2026 Alabama Governor's Conference on Tourism in The Shoals, I couldn’t resist.

Alabama’s small towns are the heartbeat of this state — the music, the food, the front porch wisdom, the history that doesn’t make it into textbooks.

I’m here soaking it all in, making connections, and gathering stories to bring back to y’all.
