One of my first stops in any small town? A library (or a bookstore). 📚

The Newnan Carnegie Library in Newnan, Georgia made my English teacher heart smile. Like more than 2,500 libraries around the world, it was made possible by Andrew Carnegie, who believed knowledge should be free to everyone. Communities that accepted his gift had to keep the doors open to the public and support the library for the long haul, which helped shape the public library system we know and love today.

You can see that spirit in the architecture. Carnegie libraries were designed with grand entrances you climb to enter (a nod to rising through learning), big windows that let the light pour in, and open shelves so everyday people could browse for themselves.

Libraries tell you so much about a town. They're where stories are shared, kids discover their first favorite book, and neighbors connect.
